Alberta Premier Jason Kenney will answer questions surrounding the province’s recently announced COVID-19 restrictions on Wednesday.
Kenney will be joined by Health Minister Tyler Shandro, Education Minister Adiana LaGrange, and Justice Minister Kaycee Madu.
The premier announced Tuesday that effective Friday, May 6, all students from kindergarten to Grade 6 will be moved to online learning. Post-secondary education will also move online.
Workplaces with COVID-19 outbreaks will be mandated to close for 10 days, with exemptions for critical workplaces.
Capacity of retail businesses will be limited to 10 per cent of fire code capacity or a minimum of five customers. Places of worship will be limited to 15 people and funerals limited to 10 people.
Outdoor social gatherings will be limited to a maximum of five people with a strong recommendation to limit gatherings to two family cohorts.
Effective at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, May 9, personal wellness services will close for three weeks, including hair salons, tattoo parlours, tanning salons and nail salons.
In-person dining at restaurants continues to be prohibited, but the government will now close outdoor patios as well.
He also announced the fines for violating public health orders would also increase from $1,000 to $2,000. Tougher penalties will also be enforced for repeat offenders.
