Alberta Premier Jason Kenney and chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw will provide and update on COVID-19 and Alberta’s vaccine distribution strategy on Monday, according to a press release from the Alberta government.
The update comes after a rodeo near Bowden drew hundreds of people over the weekend, despite the province recording a record number of COVID-19 cases on Saturday.
The event was called the No More Lockdown Rodeo Rally.
Responding on Twitter, Kenney said “It is disturbing to see large numbers of people gathering this weekend at Bowden in flagrant violation of COVID-19 public health measures.”
Alberta Health confirmed 1,731 new COVID-19 cases and three more deaths from the disease on Sunday.
Also Sunday, 1,132 variant cases were identified. The active variant case total is 14,215, which is 62 per cent of all active cases.
Alberta has 22,920 active cases, 169,892 recoveries and 2,086 deaths.
