St. Patrick’s Day 2021: For a 2nd year, COVID-19 casts shadow over the holiday

Bars and pubs aren’t feeling the luck of the Irish again this year. Many establishments are facing restrictions on the limits of customers or limits on how late they can serve alcohol. Some aren’t open at all.

Public health officials are urging St. Patrick’s Day revellers to follow physical distancing and other anti-pandemic guidelines.

The main concern is that gatherings and celebrations could turn into COVID-19 super-spreader events.

Some provinces and cities have put new restrictions in place; others will rely on existing measures.

Celebrations may be muted, but as Heather Yourex-West explains, some festivities are forging ahead.
